A Holiday Without You

I'll be spending my holiday without you. My guess is that by habit I'll look to see how you light up in certain situations and then realize you're not there.

Hard isn't the right word.

It's more like losing a limb and feeling the sensation despite a lack of physical presence: a phantom.

I didn't expect a ghost story, it's the wrong time of year for that.

I'll see flashes. Glimpses. Then I'll put you out of my mind and wrap my attention up in something else.

After the holiday is over, I'll be faced with the reality of day-to-day life.

Can I really get on without you?
