Why So Serious?

Have you ever laughed during a moment that if written for the stage or screen would be filled with heavy sobs and guttural cries?

Tragedy and comedy are constantly at war with one another.

One toe over the line and something that should be catastrophically sad becomes hilarious.

Where is the line?

Comedy is a form of science that dissects events and lays the entrails out for us to see that we are all the same.

In its most basic form it upends the persistent belief that our experiences are unique, but these experiences once distilled become

Identity, especially that which is built by experience is fragile at best.

Tragedy is what happens when we believe we are alone.

Comedy is what happens when we realize that we all share one thing:

our humanity.
